Joseph Lowe
Baroque violin, Baroque viola
British-Spanish baroque violinist and violist Joseph Lowe is a pioneering figure in historical performance, widely recognised for his innovative approach to chamber music and his dynamic presence on both modern and period stages.
Raised in Madrid, Joseph began his musical journey in Spain before moving to London, where he studied under Bojan Čičić at the Royal College of Music as a scholar. He later completed his studies with Pavlo Beznosiuk at the Royal Academy of Music, where he now holds a Fellowship in the Historical Performance department.
A sought-after orchestral and chamber musician, he has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues — from the Royal Albert Hall (UK) and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) with the Academy of Ancient Music, to the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (Germany) with the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble.
As a concertmaster, Joseph has led ensembles such as the Ensemble Orquestra, the Ambronay Academy Orchestra or the RCM Baroque Orchestra, demonstrating his deep expertise in leadership within historically informed performance.
A passionate chamber musician, Joseph is the founder of two ensembles — the Azur Ensemble and the Lowe Ensemble — with whom he regularly tours throughout the UK and Europe, presenting a wide range of repertoire. He is currently preparing for the release of his debut single, Fandango, recorded with the Lowe Ensemble, alongside an upcoming UK tour.
