BREMF Baroque Oddisey

On 17 October, Lowe Ensemble returned to the Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF) for a day of community engagement and performance. The ensemble led an interactive morning workshop at Grace Eyre, exploring harmony, ornamentation and conducting, followed by an evening concert at St George’s Church alongside Ensemble Augelletti, singers from the Fieri Consort, local school pupils, and the BREMF Community Choir.

Lowe Ensemble were warmly welcomed back to the Brighton Early Music Festival on Friday, 17 October, presenting a day filled with creativity, collaboration, and Baroque inspiration.

The day began with a morning workshop at Grace Eyre Telecom House, one of the UK’s oldest and most innovative charities supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs.
During the session, the ensemble guided participants through the essential principles of harmony, ornamentation, and conducting, encouraging exploration and active participation. The workshop concluded with a lively, impromptu improvisation session, bringing everyone together in a joyful moment of shared music-making.
Lowe Ensemble expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm after the event, thanking Grace Eyre and Brighton Early Music Festival for inviting them back and describing the session as an absolute delight.

Later that evening, at 6pm in St George’s Church, the ensemble took part in A Baroque Odyssey, a collaborative performance featuring Ensemble Augelletti, singers from the Fieri Consort, Brighton primary school pupils, and the BREMF Community Choir.
The concert invited audiences on a journey inspired by Telemann’s Water Music, complemented by works from J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. The event brought together musicians of all ages and backgrounds for a magical celebration of Baroque sound and community spirit.
